Kevin Kent
Kevin Kent started singing at 17 with dance bands in his home town of Leigh in Lancashire, and the very first song he sang on stage was "Story Of A Starry Night". After studying dancing and contemplating a career as a teacher of ballroom dancing, he returned to singing and joined a Northern vocal quartet, the Kordites, with whom he stayed for 15 years, playing club and radio dates.
Throughout the Sixties he was busy compering at many of the clubs in the Manchester area, before Syd Lawrence contacted him and asked him to join the band as singer, compere and manager.
It says something for his versatility that he can sing the Glenn Miller romantic ballads made famous by Ray Eberle as well as the totally different style of Tex Beneke, who popularised such favourites as "Chattanooga Choo Choo" and "Kalamazoo".
